    June 19th, 1865 is the date when 250,000 enslaved people were freed from bondage 2 1/2 years after the Emancipation Proclamation took effect. This year, the City of Bowie is marking the day virtually with a proclamation, a video message about Juneteenth, and a Read Aloud book for children.

    The Bowie Farmers' Market features a variety of vendors selling fruit, vegetables, honey, mushrooms, pies, and homemade goods. The Market will be walk-up, but COVID restrictions will be in place - Masks required - Social distancing at booths - Directional arrows will guide flow of shoppers

  3. Fathers and Family Bike Ride

    Join us for the Fathers and Family Bike Ride on June 20, 2021 at Allen Pond Park. Register now at https://www.meetup.com/always-visualize-success-avs/events/278384353 Please join the Bowie Police Department on Father's Day for the inaugural Fathers and Family Bike Ride at Allen Pond Park. In celebration of the important father figures in our lives, we aim to bring together the families these men help to lead in our communities. After the ride, there will be some giveaways, spoken word, some music, *free* refreshments at the main stage, including Rita's Italian Ice! Bring a lawn chair and spend some time with your Bowie Police Officers before heading home to enjoy the rest of your day! The 3-5 mi. bike ride will begin at Allen's Pond and will head towards Bowie Town Center and back. The 20 mi. option for more seasoned riders will cruise around Bowie and back.

  5. Paper Shredding & Styrofoam Recycling Event

    June 26, 2021, 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM @ Department of Public Works Solid Waste/Recycling Division parking lot

    The next paper shredding and Styrofoam recycling event takes place at the Public Works Solid Waste/Recycling parking lot, located at 16500 Annapolis Road. Residents can bring up to five tall kitchen bags or five archive boxes for shredding. (No need to remove paperclips or staples.) This event is first come first served. In the event that the three (3) trucks are filled, the event may end before 2 p.m. Documents may be observed while they are being shredded. Styrofoam must be free of any debris (glue or tape). Our last event in January collected 15.56 tons of paper and 42 pounds of Styrofoam!
