Each year, a few residents open their yards and habitats to the public to show how they are providing food, water and shelter for wildlife. They are available to talk about what has and hasn't worked for them and are happy to provide guidance on how to get started in your own backyard. Also, if you haven't certified your yard as a National Wildlife Federation (NWF) Wildlife Habitat yet, now is a great time. Usually, it costs $20 to certify your yard, but the City of Bowie is reimbursing the certification fee for up to 50 homeowners. Visit www.cityofbowie.org/habitat for a map of tour stops and the times each resident is available as well as for details about NWF certification reimbursement.
