Why 250? In a few years, the United States will celebrate its 250th anniversary (semiquincentennial), and museums and history organizations across the country are developing plans to acknowledge and celebrate the event. This moment is a once-in-a-generation opportunity for the public to engage with history on a personal level. The occasion calls on us to use the knowledge of our country’s past, in connection with our family’s past, to build a stronger future.
The all-day genealogy workshop will address the needs of beginners and advanced researchers through a series of sessions. Each session will be led by an expert in their respective field. It will address topics such as:
- Mastering a Family Tree for Beginners
- Finding Your Elusive Relative
- DNA and Genealogy
- Assumptions Made When Doing African American Genealogy
- Wiki and Other On-Line Resources
- Preserving Your Family Documents and Photos
Experts include:
- Karen Janczy, retired genealogist for the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution
- Rachel Frazier – Director of Reference Services, Maryland State Archives
