[ARCHIVED] Bowie Police Place Temporary Speed Cameras in Select Residential Areas

The Bowie Police Department will temporarily place new speed cameras in select residential areas beginning the week of September 5, 2022. The initiative jumpstarts a pilot program that will test equipment and evaluate data from three different types of cameras; a speed camera can, a trailer, and a handheld device. The temporary evaluation program will run for sixty days and will issue warnings only.

  •  14700 Block of Dolphin Way
  •  1200 Block of Pin Oak Parkway
  •  7700 Block of Race Track Road
  •  3000 Block of Belair Drive
  •  Tulip Grove Drive (camera placement TBD)

In addition, the handheld device, which works in the same way as a stationary can or trailer, will be deployed on the following roadways:

  • Pointer Ridge Drive
  • Mitchellville Road
  • Excalibur Road

No paid citations will be issued during the trial period. All speed cameras in school zones are still operational and will continue to issue citations. For information on the Safe Speed Program’s school zone speed cameras and times of operation, visit our Speed Camera page
The evaluation of the equipment and data received during the trial period will help determine full implementation at a later date. The trial period is a result of the numerous requests for monitoring speed and traffic violations in many residential areas throughout the Bowie community. Motorists are reminded to obey speed limits in place, especially in and around residential areas and school zones.
