[ARCHIVED] 2020 Waste Diversion and Recycling Awards

The City was selected by the non-profit group Keep Prince George’s Beautiful in conjunction with the Department of Environmental Protection to receive a 2020 Waste Diversion & Recycling Award for our Food Waste Pilot Program. At the virtual award ceremony on December 9 at 6 p.m., the City was one of the awardees recognized.

As a reminder, the Food Waste Program serves over 230 families in neighborhoods on Race Track Road. It has diverted thousands of pounds of organic waste from the land fill (a huge emitter of atmospheric CO2), and helps to create LeafGro and LeafGro Gold compost which are sold locally in stores and in bulk from the County Organics Facility. This program is an opt-in, free program. Learn more about it at www.cityofbowie.org/greenbowie.
