The City of Bowie, Maryland and the Greater Bowie Chamber of Commerce are celebrating the Second Annual Public Safety Appreciation Awards program on Friday, August 23, 2013. The Awards program was created to honor those who protect the people of Bowie as first responder public safety professionals, whether serving in career or volunteer capacities.
• Nominations must be for performance of duties within Bowie by first responder public safety professionals, including sworn law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services personnel. The nominee’s public safety agency does not have to be headquartered in Bowie but the performance of duties must have been within Bowie.
• Nominations must be for performance of duties in a manner that was extraordinary. This can include superior sustained performance or a meritorious act during a single event which occurred during the period of 2012-2013.
• Nominations may also include that of private citizens who have conducted extraordinary acts of performance in the interest of public safety in Bowie during this time frame.
CATEGORIES:
Distinguished Service Award – Presented to public safety professionals in recognition of outstanding and distinguished service to the people of Bowie.
Meritorious Service Award – Awarded to public safety professionals, both individual and groups, who distinguish themselves by reacting to a serious threat to public safety in a positive and professional manner thereby reducing the risk of loss of life or injury to the people of Bowie.
Mayor’s Award for Community Service – Presented to an individual or group for outstanding and sustained public safety service that has benefited the people of Bowie.
Leadership Award – Recognizes public safety leaders who advocate and accomplish significant advances in policies and programs that benefit the safety of the people of Bowie.
Business Partnership Award – Presented to a business or organization for significant and sustained support for public safety in Bowie.
Scot Lewis Award for Valor – This recognition is the most prestigious award given to a public safety officer for actions in the City of Bowie, presented to those who distinguish themselves by performance of a heroic act involving extreme personal risk and danger.
