As leaves begin to fall, there is an urge by residents and landscaping companies to rake and deposit leaves in the street and street gutters well before leaf collection is scheduled for the neighborhood.
Raking leaves into the street is hazardous. It reduces on-street parking areas, can hide broken glass and other debris, and the leaves can become extremely slippery when wet. Piles of leaves in the street decreases the usable portion of the roadway and forces joggers, pedestrians, cyclists and dog walkers further into the roadway. Please rake the leaves back from the top of the curb and not into the street. (Required by Sec. 10-7 of the City Code)
