Conservation Landscaping

Conservation landscaping is a term for a type of yard that requires very little maintenance. It typically requires little to no fertilizer or pesticide use or watering. In fact conservation landscaping typically has very little turf at all. There is often native groundcover or grasses and maybe even vegetables or herbs incorporated into a mix of healthy, amended soils. This process is also known as bayscaping as it is very beneficial for the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries, some of which start here in Bowie.

Bowie has a backyard habitat program that follows conservation landscaping principles. Visit the Backyard Habitat page.
