The recruitment of qualified Police Candidates continues to be a challenge both locally and nationally. To address these challenges the following incentives are effective immediately and will remain in effect until further notice. Anyone who refers a new Officer applicant that is ultimately hired by the Department will receive a recruitment incentive of $500. This incentive is available to everyone, including Community Members. There will be a place on the application for the candidate to write the name of the referring person. If you do recruit someone you meet during a citizen contact be sure to give them your card so they can place your name on the application.  If there is no name referenced on the application, there must be a clear and convincing connection between the applicant and the person seeking credit. Absent a name on the application, the determination of payment will be at the sole discretion of the Chief. Payment will be made upon the recruit’s first day of field training with the City of Bowie. The referral cannot be associated with any job fair. 

Additionally, New Hires will be eligible for a signing bonus. The signing bonus will be determined utilizing the below scale of the base plus additional qualifiers up to a maximum total of $9,000.  Payment will be made upon the New Hire’s first day of Field Training.

 

Base Incentive                            $3,000
Associates Degree                     $1,000
Bachelor’s Degree                      $2,000
Sworn Lateral Experience         $1,000 for each year (up to 3 years)
