Complaint Process

Complaints Against Police Practices

The Bowie Police Department endeavors to provide service with integrity to all that live, work, and recreate in the City of Bowie. In most cases, if there is a question concerning the actions taken by Bowie Police Officers there are legal or procedural explanations, however, situations do arise where errors or omissions do occur. If we have not lived up to your expectations or you believe an incident of misconduct by our personnel occurred, we want to know about it. While every incident may not rise to the level of a formal complaint, we encourage you to express any concerns you may have to one of our supervisors.

Filing a Complaint

The Bowie Police Department investigates all complaints made against the department or any of its members in a thorough and impartial manner. When filing a complaint, please be as specific as possible regarding dates, times, places, and the identity (if known) of those involved, any witnesses, and what the department or employee did, or failed to do, that is the basis for your complaint. This information will contribute significantly to a thorough investigation of the incident.

You will be notified of the receipt and assignment of your complaint, as well as any further information or follow up needed. Additionally, you will be informed of the investigation's finding at its conclusion.
