Filing For Office
Overview
Residents who are registered to vote can file for elected office in the office of the City Clerk. Candidate packets are available for pick up at the City Clerks office Monday thru Friday 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Filing deadline for the November City Election iwas October 6, 2023 at 5 p.m.
Requirements
Candidates for elected office must complete:
- a Certificate of Nomination
- an Appointment of Treasurer Form
- a Financial Disclosure Statement
and pay a filing fee of $25. Candidates should bring the completed forms with them when they file for office.
Note: No person may solicit or collect funds to be used in furtherance of the election to municipal office of any person who has not filed a Certificate of Candidacy and the Notice of Appointment of Treasurer.(City Code: Sec.6-68 (d))
Qualifications for Mayor
Residents who have resided within the corporate limits of the City of Bowie for at least two years, who are at least 18 years of age, and are registered voters, are eligible to file for the office of Mayor of the City of Bowie.
Qualifications for Council
Residents who have resided within the corporate limits of the City of Bowie for at least one year, who are at least 18 years of age, and who are registered voters are eligible to file for the Council seat in the District in which they live or for an At-Large Council seat.
