The Maryland Archaeology Lab has created a top notch exhibit that explores artifacts from Maryland sites from the time period around the famous "'45," the last Jacobite rebellion in Scotland. Artifacts illustrate the similarity between colonial Maryland and Scotland. Sassenachs and followers of Bonnie Prince Charlie will all enjoy the exhibit. Ladies are invited to have their picture taken with a live sized replica of Jamie Fraser, the series hero. History, romance and science - all combined to enjoy at Belair!

  2. Exhibit: "Outlander" and the Artifacts of Maryland Archaeology

    May 7, 2017, 12:00 PM - June 30, 2017, 4:00 PM

Belair Mansion is pleased to host a new exhibit, "Outlander and the Artifacts of Maryland Archaeology." "Outlander," a historical romance/science fiction story is the subject of a tremendously successful series of novels by author Diana Gabaldon. The novels are now a television series seen on cable tv. 1940's time traveler, Claire Beauchamp, slips through standing stones in Scotland in the early 1740's. There, she meets a young Scot, James Fraser. The novels take Jamie and Claire through a lifetime of adventure - beginning with the Scottish Jacobite Rebellion in the middle 1740's. The exhibit is based on Maryland archaeological artifacts excavated from different sites around Md. that are contemporary to the time of the stories, and illustrate the historical reproductions used in the cable production. Whether you're a Jacobite sympathizer, a Sassenach (outlander,) a history/archaeology buff, or a fan of the literary genre, you'll love "Outlander and Maryland Archaeology.
