Exhibit: "Outlander" and the Artifacts of Maryland Archaeology
Sunday, May 7, 2017
Belair Mansion is pleased to host a new exhibit, "Outlander and the Artifacts of Maryland Archaeology."
"Outlander," a historical romance/science fiction story is the subject of a tremendously successful series of novels by author Diana Gabaldon. The novels are now a television series seen on cable tv. 1940's time traveler, Claire Beauchamp, slips through standing stones in Scotland in the early 1740's. There, she meets a young Scot, James Fraser. The novels take Jamie and Claire through a lifetime of adventure - beginning with the Scottish Jacobite Rebellion in the middle 1740's.
The exhibit is based on Maryland archaeological artifacts excavated from different sites around Md. that are contemporary to the time of the stories, and illustrate the historical reproductions used in the cable production.
Whether you're a Jacobite sympathizer, a Sassenach (outlander,) a history/archaeology buff, or a fan of the literary genre, you'll love "Outlander and Maryland Archaeology.
