Bowie Explorers

Bowie Police Department Explorers Post 1916
Many careers in law enforcement have begun with participation in the Police Explorers program. Police Explorers are youth ranging in age from 14 years to 20 years of age. Our Explorers participate in activities which allow them to have hands-on experience with police officers in their roles with in the community.

Explorers are required to attend bi-weekly meetings and other events as they arise. The meetings will cover topics and training that will assist them in pursuing a career in law enforcement. The training provided includes but is not limited to:
  • Basic Patrol Procedures
  • Crime Scene Investigation
  • Defensive Tactics
  • Fingerprinting
  • Report Writing
  • Traffic Control

Also included in their training is a chance to earn merit awards, try-outs for various competitions, and entrance to the annual National Law Enforcement Exploring Conference.

Community Service
Community service is a main function of the post. Our explorers participate in various special events within the community. The Post Color Guard will also have the honor of presenting the colors at several community events.
