Community Events at the Gymnasium

Back To School Bash

The annual Back to School Bash is the City of Bowie Gymnasium's signature community event attracting over 2000 members of the public each year. Celebrating it's 10th anniversary in 2013 The Back To School Bash continues to not only attract the members of the public that attend each year but  the local community companies and agencies that take part in the community resource area each year providing information on local programs and services provided to or offered to families in the Bowie region.  
The event is held the Saturday before PGCPS return to school in August after the summer break between 10am and 1pm. The event is always free but a donation of a non perishable food items or $3.00 to benefit the Bowie Food Pantry is welcome. Besides the community resource area the event will include  Live demonstrations, carnival games, moon bounces, A DJ and a Back Pack Give-Away. The first 300 school aged children 3 years old to 10 years of age that registers for the event on the scheduled day with a parent will be given a free Back Pack of school supplies.

Saturday Fun with Santa

Saturday Fun With Santa is held between 10am and 12pm annually on the second Saturday of December.  Santa takes time out of his busy schedule to be on hand each year for photos. This event is also a USMC Toys for Tots toy drive. The event includes live holiday music, moon bounces, face painting. Families with children 12 years and younger are welcome. Admission is a new unwrapped gift for the USMC Toys for Tots Toy Drive or $3 without a new unwrapped gift.

The Annual Camp Fair
The City of Bowie Gymnasium collaborates with the Chesapeake Family Magazine to host this annual camp fair held each April. 40 or more camps are well represented by their staff each year. This is an rare opportunity for families to discover the many summer  time opportunities that are offered to those family members that are aged 6 years old to 16 years of age.  Directors and staff are on hand to answer questions from camps from the local area as well as out of state sleep away and specialty camps. This community event is free to all that attend.
